LED Lights Beneficial Medical Benefits

A recent Wired article titled “Light At The End of the Tunnel” went over the perceived benefits of LED lights for treating everything from war wounds to cancer.

I stumbled across the article after finding out that Presidential candidate Barrak Obama had tried to ear mark special funding for further LED medical research. Ultimately the funding request was denied, but there is a growing number of people in both the military and medical community that believe LEDs flashing at the 680-, 730- and 880-nanometer wavelengths have special healing powers, even though so far nobody knows why.

One company Anodyne Therapy has created a commercial product that has been purchased by dozens of nursing homes across the United States. The therapy is designed to help a whole host of ailments but FDA clearance to date only credits the treatment with increasing circulation and reducing pain, stiffness and muscle spasms.

It will be very interesting to see how this medical technology continues to evolve over the years.
